Double Dipping

There's something so satisfying about a beautifully designed product that has more than one use—as if you're getting something for nothing. Domesticity's Shed Coat Hook, for example, is not content just to be a garden-variety hook, but stretches its effectiveness by storing a few cards, keys, books, etc. Spill is a visual double entendre that captures your cup and spoon nicely, while avoiding the very thing it pretends to be.

Tidy It Up with CableBox

The fake offices you see in stores always look impossibly neat. That’s because they don't have any cords. But we all know that computer and peripheral cords are here to stay. CableBox by Blue Lounge solves the problem of all those cables. CableBox fits almost every size power strip, with extra space for the cords, adapters, and all the paraphernalia that makes your office look messy. Just put your power strips or surge protector right inside CableBox, then stow away the extra cable, close the lid and enjoy your much neater office—or kitchen, library, study or dining room.

Mix It Up

According to dictionary.com, eclecticism can be defined as “a tendency in architecture and the decorative arts to mix various historical styles with modern elements with the aim of combining the virtues of many styles.”

In other words, take what you have and mix it up a little. Being eclectic means you don’t have to throw the baby out with the bath water, but that you can take the pieces you like from your office or even elsewhere in your home and add one or two of the thoughtfully designed and very functional pieces from @WorkDesign’s collection to come up with something that’s more personal, fun and productive.

Mix it up! Have a little fun. Combine the old with the new, modern with rustic, the classic with the avant-garde. It doesn’t have to be big or expensive. Take a look at Russell+Hazel’s Signature binders to organize your thoughts and your day, or hang up some of Grafik180’s City Art so you can daydream about being in Paris or Berlin while you’re meeting your next deadline. The Droog Strap is a fun handy holder made from silicone rubber that you can put up on your wall to stylishly stash anything, including that Wall Street Journal article you’ve been meaning to get to or your kid’s latest masterpiece.

Tree Theory Bags.jpg

New to the store: Tree Theory bags

Tree Theory is a Chicago company that has found an ingenious use for those ubiquitous plastic banners that have become part of the landscape. Instead of heading to the landfill, the banners are repurposed by Tree Theory into satchels, messenger bags and backpacks using kind of an origami pattern. Construction is sturdy, finished with high quality stainless steel hardware. Each bag is different, some with vague alphabetical reverberations. Bags are fully recyclable, repairable, and entirely manufactured and assembled in Chicago.
